Who we are

Primitive Honey Farm is rooted in Charlton, New York, a community where gardening, small farms, and land stewardship are part of everyday life. Our honey reflects the character of this town—sourced from diverse backyard gardens, flowering trees, and agricultural landscapes that shape both the flavor and identity of each harvest. Every jar tells a local story, influenced by the seasons, the soil, and the people who care for the land around us.

Beyond honey production, Primitive Honey Farm is deeply involved in applied beekeeping research and hive experimentation. Drawing from evidence-based practices and resources such as scientific beekeeping publications, we actively study hive monitoring, colony behavior, and environmental conditions to improve bee health, winter survival, and management decisions. This hands-on experimentation allows us to blend traditional beekeeping methods with modern data-driven insights.

Our experience includes hands-on work with BetterBee, where we contributed to building nucleus colonies (NUCs) during Bee Bootcamp—an intensive program focused on quality stock, proper colony development, and sustainable beekeeping practices. That same attention to detail carries into everything we do, from hive management to best practices in honey extraction.

We are especially proud of our premium honey line harvested using Flow Frames, a system that allows honey to go from the comb directly into the bottle with little to no processing. The bees are the last to touch the honey before it reaches the customer—preserving natural enzymes, aroma, and flavor exactly as it exists in the hive. We also offer our standard line which maintains a century of practices that withstand the test of time.

Primitive Honey Farm also offers a range of professional services, including hive rentals, hive maintenance, pollination services, community education, and NUC sales. Whether you are a homeowner, gardener, farmer, or aspiring beekeeper, our goal is to support both healthy pollinators and a stronger local agricultural community—through honest honey, responsible beekeeping, and continual learning.
